Mission

Gateway to Science serves as a regional resource for informal science education.

Background

Gateway to Science is the only hands-on science center in North Dakota. We operate an interactive exhibits gallery year-round the provides opportunities for interactive exploration of science concepts by kids of all ages.

Annual events include:

  • Winter Wonderland - an astronomy based evening the features stargazing in the winter sky, a portable planetarium and lots of wintery science experiments*
  • 'da Genius daVinci - a program for 1st and 2nd grade students exploring the art and science discoveries of Leonardo daVinci. Leonardo daVinci
  • Enviromental Festival - annually serves approximately 1,000 5th graders each spring*
  • NanoDays - an exploration of nanotechnology concepts and applications*
  • The Sound of Science - Activities demonstrating the science of sound*
  • Family Rocket Day - Build and launch rockets powered by various fuels, including water, air and engine-propelled*Pat Riepl helps a child prepare her rocket for launching.
  • Bubble Bliss - the exploration of light, color, refraction, surface tension and many other scientific concepts, all made possible by blowing bubbles*  Blowing Bubbles!
  • Spooktacular Science - a Halloween-themed event with a spooky science lab and hosted in partnership with our High Prairie partners' Haunting Arts event.
  • Einstein on Wine - annual fundraiser held in November for adult guests.

Educational programs are offered throughout the year for children of all ages on a variety of topics. Ongoing clubs and programs include Science Discovery Club, Young Scientists Club and Preschool Science. Summer camps have been offered including Engineer That, Space Camp, Paleontology Camp, Lego Camp and Lego Robotics.

Gateway to Science serves an average of over 11,500 visitors and program participants each year.
