Mission

The Red River Children’s Advocacy Center facilitates the coordination of North Dakota and Minnesota community response to child abuse for victims and their families through a team approach to investigation, treatment and prosecution in a safe and child centered environment.

Background

The Red River Children’s Advocacy Center was established in Fargo in late 2004 by local and regional agencies and volunteers. Grand Forks area professionals saw the need to have a local faciltiy and with their hard work a Grand Forks location was opened in 2010.

It is nationally accredited by the National Children’s Alliance and joins over 700 other advocacy centers in the nation. The setting provides a nurturing atmosphere where partnering law enforcement and social services work with multidisciplinary teams of community professionals to offer expertise in medical and mental health evaluations, victim and family advocacy, forensic interviews, case review and case tracking. The RRCAC also supports skills building for professionals and provides opportunities for training and peer review.

Partners sign agreements to support and promote the RRCAC mission. Families receive satisfaction surveys at the time of referral.

The goal of working together is to reduce child trauma by minimizing the number of times a child is interviewed about an alleged incident, gather and document forensic and medical information that can be used to support prosecution and to provide referrals and recommendations for services that will benefit the child and support the family.

The RRCAC is a member of the North Dakota and Minnesota National Children’s Alliance Chapter.
