Mission

The mission of the Fargo-Moorhead Opera is threefold:

To provide high quality opera performances which include local, regional, and international artists
To develop an appreciation for one of the world's great art forms
To establish an educational outreach program which will support the creation of operatic activities within the region's schools, colleges and universities.

Background

Founded more than 40 years ago, Fargo-Moorhead Opera is the only professional opera company between Minneapolis and Bozeman and between Omaha and Winnipeg. We produce 3 to 4 operas per year and provide lots of educational outreach programs for both kids and adults.

Our programs range from kid friendly operas like Hansel and Gretel to the big standards like Madame Butterfly. We even have an anti-bullying opera that we take to area schools. We tour to smaller communities in the region and across the states of Minnesota and North Dakota on a regular basis to bring live opera everywhere!

Our leading singers range from international stars to local favorites and we have the best looking and sounding chorus you've ever experienced. We provide a chance for talented college students who are training for singing careers to get up on the stage with the leading professionals to see what opera's all about.

The world of opera has changed a lot in the past few years. We could be accused of "Hollywood" casting since our performers act as well as they sing. It is our mission to provide our audiences with the best in theatrical experiences combined with soul-stirring music.
